Does your child's school have a KPGT liaison?

KPGT is seeking parents of identified GT students who want to assume an active role in gifted education and issues. We need at least two parents from each KISD campus to serve as liaisons between KPGT and their campuses. While serving as a campus liaison, the opportunities for learning about giftedness and gifted education are immense.

"Parenting Gifted Kids: Tips For Raising Happy And Successful Children" Parent Presentation & Discussion with Dr. James Delisle April 28 - 7:00-8:30 p.m. @ Cinco Ranch Jr. High Cafeteria Parents of gifted children and teens have many questions about how best to meet their intellectual and emotional needs. Parents of gifted kids want to know what giftedness is . . .and what it is not. They want to know how to accommodate learning needs that are not always addressed appropriately in classroom settings. They want to know how to set expectations that are balanced and attainable. And they want to know how to help their children find true friends who share similar interests and abilities. In this session, Dr. Delisle addresses these and other issues that "come with the territory" of raising gifted children. DR. Delisle's handout is linked HERE. Director of TAGT May 3 7:00-8:30 p.m. @ Cinco Ranch Jr. High It is important for parents to be advocates for their gifted children, but to do so effectively, it is even more important to understand the nature and needs of giftedness. This presentation will look at common characteristics of gifted children, the demands that these characteristics place upon them and how parents can become more effective advocates their children. KPGT Family Night at ComedySportz! for a night of improvisational comedy Friday, March 26, 2010 was a GREAT success with almost 100 KPGT friends laughing together over "improper fractions" among other challenging improv topics! Study Skills for GT Parents and Students: We were pleased to have so many students and parents join us to learn how GT students can overcome their first challenging courses with strong study skills and awareness of their learning styles. Dr. Breedlove helped parents select great books that also meet the social-emotional needs of gifted children.
