When
people ask me how my "GT stuff"
is going, I never know how to
answer. My "GT stuff" is
much like my hobby of genealogy
in that it is never "done."
There are always parents new to
the world of GT education. There
are always new ideas for
programs and events. There
are always new developments to
share. KPGT continues to
evolve and grow.
I
have been determined to connect
with other GT parent group
leaders across the state to see
how we can support each other,
share resources and collaborate.
I was surprised to discover that
there are reportedly very few
local parent groups in the
Houston area. Among all
existing local groups, KPGT is
one of the oldest and strongest.
I wish I knew what the secret is
to our longevity! We are
blessed to have this resource in
Katy and other communities are
envious of our success.
-
Undoubtedly, our strength
comes from the combination
of dedicated volunteers and
generous members and donors.
I am grateful for all the
efforts of those who came
before us for laying a
strong foundation. As
I begin my last year as KPGT
President, I am proud of all
that our organization has
recently accomplished.
implementation of an
effective email system that
regularly communicates with
more than 700 concerned
people about interesting local
events and issues;
hosting of guest speakers
who give important tools to
educators and parents;
initiating many campus GT family
fun nights such as game nights,
picnics, and building and
brain teasers to help our
families know each other;
funding a range of
instructional materials and
teacher appreciation
efforts;
reconstruction - twice - of our KPGT website
which continues to improve;
publishing, redesigning
& delivering KPGT
newsletters (4 for for the 2007/2008 school
year and 2 already this year).
launching a new
invitation-only online
network for the GT
community; and
of course... planning, funding
and volunteer staffing of
another amazing SUPER SATURDAY!
We know there are many demands
on your time. Even when we do
not hear from you, our role is
to keep communicating, planning
and advocating on your behalf.
If you have a suggestion,
critique or compliment, I would
appreciate hearing from you.
